Ekegusii (Kisii / Gusii)

Ekegusii is spoken by the Abagusii of the Kisii highlands in south-western Kenya. It belongs to the Great Lakes Bantu zone and has a vigorous oral literary tradition including egesaku (praise poetry), clan histories, and women's work songs associated with millet grinding and tea cultivation.

Ekegusii is notable linguistically for its tonal system and elaborate verbal extensions (applicative, causative, reciprocal, and reversive).
